Toriano Porter is an author, journalist, speaker, and the youngest member of the Kansas City Star editorial board. 

He grew up in a tough St. Louis neighborhood, relying on a thirst to learn and athletics to escape a culture of violence.  He's experienced personal tragedy, losing his son and more than a dozen acquaintances, many to gun violence.  He shares these  experiences and those of the Kansas City community for the KC Star and he's written multiple books while helping mentor African American youth.  For more on Toriano, check out his website
